Pregnancy
If you are preconception or are newly pregnant, you may have concerns about the safety of psychiatric medications during pregnancy. When deciding to treat mental health conditions, we always need to balance the risks of medication with the risks of untreated mental illness. Together we can explore your personal risk-benefit balance and create informed treatment plans. Support and planning during pregnancy can help you and your family prepare and reduce your risk of mental health complications postpartum.
Postpartum
Postpartum depression and anxiety are so common – at least 1 in 5 postpartum women experience a postpartum mood/anxiety disorder or PMAD. Symptoms can develop anywhere in the first year postpartum, and dads & partners are at risk too. Treatment can include individual therapy, support groups, and medication. Holistic, individualized approaches look at your sleep, nutrition, and support.
Infant feeding and lactation can impact mental health in many ways. It’s important to get accurate information about medication safety. You also deserve informed, individualized support as you navigate feeding decisions, stressors, and changes. Weaning, at any time postpartum, is another time extra mental health support may be needed.
